Prospective Members

Our journal offers a unique opportunity for 2L members to research, write, and edit articles in non-traditional areas, in addition to receiving academic credit. We welcome new members of all backgrounds to participate on this high caliber journal, used by academics and practitioners alike, to advance provocative and contemporary legal scholarship.

Writing Competition
You have a choice of two methods to write-on to the Hastings Women's Law Journal.

  • General Inter-Journal Writing Competition
Inter-Journal Writing Competition packets can be picked up at the Scholarly Publications Office or downloaded from the Writing Competition page starting on Friday, May 11, 2012. If applying in this manner, a separate personal statement must be attached with your writing sample submitted to HWLJ. Entries must be postmarked on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, or hand-delivered by Tuesday, May 22, 2011 at 5 PM, to the Scholarly Publications Office.
  • HWLJ competition
If you are only interested in applying to HWLJ, you are invited to participate in the HWLJ-specific writing competition. The materials needed for application to WLJ are identical to those available in the IJWC packet available at the Scholarly Publications Office or downloaded from the Writing Competition page starting on Monday, June 18, 2011 at 9 AM. Entries must be e-mailed to ijwc@uchastings.edu by Monday, July 2, 2012 at 5 PM.

Committees
HWLJ is comprised of various committees on which members serve. This helps members get more involved with the day-to-day running of the journal and allows for more interaction with various members. The hands-on experience cultivates leadership skills and helps members determine what editorial board roles they will take on the following year.

Community
HWLJ hosts a variety of informal get-togethers and events throughout the year, providing opportunities for the exchange of thoughts and ideas. In addition to our social events, we also provide our members with ample networking opportunities by holding special panels and giving them an opportunity to participate in local community activities and volunteer work. We welcome new members of all backgrounds to participate on this high-caliber journal, used by academics and practitioners alike, to advance provocative and contemporary legal scholarship.
